Between the beaches of Baga and Candolim lies the 3 mile long Queen of Beaches, Calangute. This idyllic fishing village with its beautiful coconut tree lined, pristine beach was said to have been discovered in the 1960’s by the hippies. It paved the way for the many European tourists who come flocking to this place. The most happening beach of Goa, you will find everything here great food, shopping, entertainment and a wide choice of accommodation.
Sightseeing:
Beach hopping is the main activity from Calangute. Visit the neighbouring BAGA and Anjuna beaches and venture further to some quiet, secluded beaches such as Vagator and Candolim to appreciate the natural beauty. The 400-year-old Church of St. Alex is a magnificent work of architecture with its dome and towers. Visit the Kerkar Art Complex, which hosts art and crafts exhibitions. If you happen to be there on a Thursday or Friday, you can attend an Indian classical dance and music concert.
